About us

Enigma Yachts was founded 2003 by experienced Danish sailer and former managing director of North Sails Turkey Frank Kirkegaard. The company was established in the Tuzla Free Trade Zone with its own production facility.

Enigma Yachts designed and built the first Enigma 34 One Design together with designer Mark Mills in 2006/2007 after an intensive product development and research project to find the best solutions for a gentlemen one design racer with high performance potential and the ability to sail with small crew for pleasure. With the latest technology in building, rigging and running gear the Hull No 1 was launched in Istanbul and used by her Turkish owners in 2007.

The project was born based on the growing demand for easy to handle, modern and fast boats for the coast and lakes.

In late 2007 Michael Bornhäusser and Frank Kirkegaard developed a new configuration for the Enigma 34 with more life style features such as teak deck, stainless steel, carbon applications and a brand new cabin design to increase luxury and the life style element for the boat. A new sail plan and rig design was developed together with North Sails Switzerland and Nordic Mast to further increase the performance and complete the new look with a square head main and an optional park avenue boom.

The new Enigma 34 Signature Edition was born. The first boat painted all black was built for Michael Bornhäusser’s Yabo-Sailing and was launched for the Bol D’Or Mirabaud where she reached a 9th place right out of the transport container.

Engima Yachts is now owned by Michael Bornhäusser and Frank Kirkegaard together with other partners. Frank acts as CEO of Enigma Yachts  in Tuzla responsible for product development and production, Michael is CEO of Yabo-Sailing in Switzerland  the world wide and exclusive distributor for Enigma Yachts serving dealers world wide and customers in Switzerland.  Yabo-Sailing is also responsible for branding and marketing for Enigma Yachts.
